Ayurvedic Yogic Massage
Let me tell you all about this fantastic massage with a difference. Ayurvedic Yogic Massage combines massage, assisted stretches with yoga poses and uses Ayurvedic oils and powders to help the body to draw out toxins. Ayurvedic oils and powders are natural products and most commonly used for this massage is sesame seed oil and calamus powder.
The massage takes place lying on a thick matt on the ground and works across the whole body. You are covered always apart from the area of the body being worked on and this starts with your back, neck, and shoulders. We then move onto the backs of your legs with assisted stretches for your hips, an assisted stretch into child’s pose and some seated chest stretches and shoulder mobility work.
You then lie down on your back and the focus is on your legs and includes hamstring assisted stretches and more hip mobility work, an abdomen (this is optional) and shoulder massage, head, and face massage before enjoying a meditation to finish.
This really is a full body experience and will leave you feeling relaxed, calm and well. Your session can include a full body massage, or you can focus on particular areas of your body that require more focus due to injury or prevention of injury being your focus.
*Please note that AYM is a set sequence of massage and assited stretches and it takes time to work through. You are also moving around more than a 'normal' . 60 minutes give us time to work through half of the sequence and 90minutes allows time to experience the full sequence and have time for the guided relaxation at the end. If you have the time- I would recommend booking in foir the 90minutes for this style of maasge.
*This massage is not suitable for pregnant ladies.
I remember the aches and pains during pregnancy well. Having the time to sit or lie and relax in a quite and peaceful studio is heaven and needed. I will offer a variety of positions which are safe throughout your pregnancy to relax whilst I work to help reduce tension, and your nourish tired and aching muscles.
Swedish massage is one of the most common and best-known types of massage in the west. Pressure can be light to give a more relaxing effect or firm like a sports massage. This is carried out on a plinth or massage table which is raised from the ground. Again you are covered at all times apart from the area of your body that is being worked on.
Many different strokes can be used including effleurage, petrissage, kneading and tapping. Again you can have a full body massage or focus on particular areas.
Myofascial is the connective tissue that is in and around muscles. Myofascial Release (MFR) is a specialist physical and manual therapy used to treat soft tissue and fascial aches, pains, tension, and restriction. Massage wax is used to carry out the myofascial release and is more targeted than the above two massages. I use this technique once I have identified specific movements that are restricted. MFR and the top two massages work well together, and I will often combine techniques.
